I took a course in high school to learn how to make metal tools. In order for the tools to be hardened, we were taught to take a hot molten piece of metal and dip it in and out of water in order to temper it. This process gave the tool the proper strength to be useful. The bible tells us; “When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God” (Is. 43:2-3).

Our Lord allows us to go through the fire of trials in order to make us useful in His service. An attitude of pride will not hold up under pressure. When we go through fiery trials in life, we learn to trust in the Lord and in His Word. Humility is built into our lives. Without His character, we will break under pressure when the Lord begins to use us. So embrace the Lord in the midst of the fire. You are in preparation for greater things.
