We often confuse “happiness” with “joy.” Happiness is a good feeling based on good things that happen around us. But joy is a gift from God. We can experience joy even when things around us feel out of control. And giving thanks to God releases joy in our lives, which gives us strength to face our battles. The bible says, “The joy of the LORD is your strength (Neh. 8:10). Do not allow the devil to steal your joy. The enemy knows if he can steal your joy, you will lose your spiritual and emotional strength.

The Kingdom of God is righteous (being right with God), peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). Some of my friends in Rwanda lived through the horrible genocide of 1994 when 800,000 people lost their lives. They experienced unbelievable pain. But those who found something to thank God for in the midst of their loss, experienced the strength to go on. Let’s choose gratefulness today. Find something to thank God for. His joy will be your strength.
