Some varieties of trees, when first planted, need to have a stake driven into the ground next to the tree. A rope then is tied around the tree and stake until the tree can grow tall and strong enough to hold itself. God has called you and me to be “stakes” for people, helping to stabilize their lives until they learn to develop a strong personal relationship with God.

I was reminded of this truth during the past few days when our grandson Dalton was born. He is totally dependent on his parents as he begins to grow and will eventually learn how to care for himself.

Paul the apostle tells us in I Thessalonians 5:11 to “encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” Who has God called you to encourage and “be a stake for” today?
